Sallu, Amok, Hilkiah, and Jedaiah. These were the leaders of the priests and their associates in the days of Jeshua.

Nehemiah 12:7, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

This verse closes a list of priestly families who returned from exile in Babylon with Zerubbabel and Jeshua, the high priest, in the late sixth century BC. Nehemiah, writing later, records these names to show that the restored worship in Jerusalem rested on organized, named households rather than on a vague crowd.
