Nehemiah 13:27 meaning and explanation

Must we now hear that you too are doing all this terrible evil and acting unfaithfully against our God by marrying foreign women?”

Nehemiah 13:27, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Nehemiah is speaking to the nobles and people of Judah after returning to Jerusalem, confronting men who had married women from Ashdod, Ammon and Moab. His concern is covenantal rather than racial: these marriages were drawing households into the customs and worship of surrounding peoples, and children were growing up unable to speak the language of Judah.
