Nehemiah 5:16 meaning and explanation
Instead, I devoted myself to the construction of the wall, and all my servants were gathered there for the work; we did not acquire any land.
Nehemiah 5:16, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Nehemiah speaks as governor of Judah, defending his conduct during the rebuilding of Jerusalem's wall. Earlier governors had burdened the people with heavy taxes and used their office for personal gain, but Nehemiah gave himself to the work and kept his servants at the wall rather than sending them to farm or trade for him.
