Nehemiah 9:31 meaning and explanation

But in Your great compassion, You did not put an end to them; nor did You forsake them, for You are a gracious and compassionate God.

Nehemiah 9:31, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

These words come near the end of a long prayer that the Levites lead on behalf of the returned exiles in Jerusalem. The prayer retells Israel's history from creation through the wilderness and the judges, and it has just described how the people repeatedly rebelled and were handed over to their enemies.
