Numbers 14:35 meaning and explanation

I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will surely do these things to this entire wicked congregation, which has conspired against Me. They will meet their end in the wilderness, and there they will die.”

Numbers 14:35, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The LORD is speaking to Moses and Aaron after Israel, camped at Kadesh, refused to enter Canaan on the spies' report and talked of choosing a new leader to take them back to Egypt. The Hebrew verb for conspire, qashar, pictures a banding together against a ruler, and here the nation's grumbling is treated as an alliance against God himself.
