Explanation preview
The LORD is speaking to Moses for the Israelites still in the wilderness, but the instruction looks ahead to life in the promised land, when offerings will be brought from herd and flock. Verses 4 through 10 scale the grain and drink offerings to the size of the animal: a lamb gets a tenth of an ephah of flour, a ram two tenths, and here a young bull three tenths, mixed with half a hin of olive oil.
