Explanation preview

Korah, a Levite, joined with Reubenites Dathan and Abiram and 250 recognized leaders of Israel to oppose Moses and Aaron. The verse names the rebellion's makeup: it was not a mob but respected men, "renowned as leaders of the congregation and representatives in the assembly." Their complaint in the next verse is that Moses and Aaron had exalted themselves, since the whole congregation was holy.
