When Balak heard that Balaam was coming, he went out to meet him at the Moabite city on the Arnon border, at the edge of his territory.

Balak, king of Moab, has twice sent messengers to summon Balaam, a diviner from Pethor on the Euphrates, to curse Israel. Now word comes that Balaam is finally arriving, and Balak goes out to meet him at the Moabite city on the Arnon, the river marking the southern edge of his territory.
