Numbers 22:7, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Balak, king of Moab, is terrified of the Israelites camped near his border, so he sends a delegation of Moabite and Midianite elders to hire Balaam, a famous diviner from Pethor on the Euphrates. The “fees for divination” were the payment for a professional curse, and the Hebrew word for divination, qesem, is the same term Scripture elsewhere condemns.
