This verse closes the census of the Levites in the wilderness camp at Sinai, where Moses and Aaron counted the men between thirty and fifty who were fit for the demanding work of the tabernacle. The Hebrew word avodah can mean both service and labor, and here it joins serving with carrying, since the Levites dismantled, transported and reassembled the Tent of Meeting whenever Israel moved.
