Numbers 6:9 meaning and explanation

If someone suddenly dies in his presence and defiles his consecrated head of hair, he must shave his head on the day of his cleansing—the seventh day.

Numbers 6:9, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Under the Nazirite vow described earlier in Numbers 6, a person set apart to the LORD avoided wine, let his hair grow, and stayed away from dead bodies. This verse addresses the unexpected: someone dies suddenly beside the Nazirite, and the contact defiles him, including the consecrated hair that marked his separation.
