Philippians 1:4 meaning and explanation

In every prayer for all of you, I always pray with joy,

Philippians 1:4, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Paul writes from prison to a church he founded, and in verse 4 he names the tone of his intercession: joy. The Greek word for prayer here is deēsis, a request or plea, so Paul is not describing vague good wishes but specific asking on their behalf, and every time he prays this way, joy accompanies it.
