Psalms 109:9 meaning and explanation

May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.

Psalms 109:9, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Psalm 109 is a prayer of David in which he asks God to judge the people who have falsely accused him and repaid his love with hatred. In verses 6 to 19 he describes the ruin he wants to fall on his chief accuser, and verse 9 is part of that list: the man's household should lose its head, leaving his children fatherless and his wife a widow.
