Psalms 28:1 meaning and explanation

Of David. To You, O LORD, I call; be not deaf to me, O my Rock. For if You remain silent, I will be like those descending to the Pit.

Psalms 28:1, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

David opens this psalm in urgent prayer, calling on the LORD not to stay silent while enemies threaten him. He addresses God as his Rock, the solid ground beneath him, and names the stakes plainly: if God does not answer, David will be like those going down to the Pit, the grave or place of the dead.
