Psalms 31:11 meaning and explanation

Among all my enemies I am a disgrace, and among my neighbors even more. I am dreaded by my friends— they flee when they see me on the street.

Psalms 31:11, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

David is speaking, and the setting is his own distress: enemies slander him, neighbors scorn him, and even friends avoid him. The verse traces rejection spreading outward, from foes to neighbors to friends, until he is treated like someone to be feared and shunned in public.
