Psalms 44:2 meaning and explanation

With Your hand You drove out the nations and planted our fathers there; You crushed the peoples and cast them out.

Psalms 44:2, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The sons of Korah speak here as a community recalling the conquest of Canaan, when God brought Israel into the land. They credit the victory to God's own hand, not to Israel's armies: "You drove out the nations" and "You planted our fathers there." The image shifts from clearing ground to planting a people, a picture of God as both warrior and gardener.
