Psalms 55:9 meaning and explanation
O Lord, confuse and confound their speech, for I see violence and strife in the city.
Psalms 55:9, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Psalm 55 is a prayer of David when he is betrayed by a close friend and surrounded by enemies, and the middle of the psalm turns from his personal distress to the city itself. In verse 9 David asks God to confuse and confound their speech, language that echoes the scattering of tongues at Babel in Genesis 11, and then names what he sees: violence and strife within the city walls.
