Psalms 62:9 meaning and explanation

Lowborn men are but a vapor, the exalted but a lie. Weighed on the scale, they go up; together they are but a vapor.

Psalms 62:9, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

David is speaking to the gathered people, urging them to trust God rather than human strength. In verse 9 he weighs all people on a scale, and both ends rise: the lowborn are hebel, a Hebrew word for vapor or breath, and the exalted turn out to be a lie, lighter than nothing.
