Psalms 85:11 meaning and explanation

Faithfulness sprouts from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven.

Psalms 85:11, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Psalm 85 is a prayer of the sons of Korah for a community that remembers God's past mercy, when He restored Jacob from captivity and forgave His people's sin, yet now feels His displeasure and pleads for revival. In verse 11 the poetry personifies a restored land: faithfulness, the Hebrew emunah, meaning steadfastness or reliability, sprouts up like a plant from the ground, while righteousness, tsedeq, leans down from the sky.
