Psalms 94:2 meaning and explanation

Rise up, O Judge of the earth; render a reward to the proud.

Psalms 94:2, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The psalmist speaks as part of a community suffering under rulers who kill widows, foreigners and orphans (verses 5 to 6), and he calls on God to act as Judge of the whole earth. The Hebrew verb for rise up is qum, a summons to take a stand, and the request for a reward to the proud asks God to give the arrogant what their deeds deserve.
