These are the closing words of the book of Revelation, written by John to churches under pressure. Jesus himself speaks the promise, "Yes, I am coming soon," and John answers with both a Hebrew amen, meaning surely or truly, and the prayer "Come, Lord Jesus." The Aramaic phrase Maranatha, preserved elsewhere in the New Testament, carries the same longing.
