Revelation 4:2 meaning and explanation

At once I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne standing in heaven, with someone seated on it.

Revelation 4:2, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

John, exiled on Patmos, has just heard a trumpet-like voice invite him through an open door in heaven. Here he reports that he "was in the Spirit," the same phrase used in Revelation 1:10, meaning the Spirit gave him a vision rather than that he traveled bodily.
