Romans 12:18 meaning and explanation

If it is possible on your part, live at peace with everyone.

Romans 12:18, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Paul is writing to the believers in Rome, a church he had not yet visited, as he moves from doctrine into everyday Christian conduct. Just before this verse he tells them not to repay evil for evil, and here he adds a realistic qualifier: peace involves two parties, so they can only do their part.
