Romans 2:21 meaning and explanation

you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?

Romans 2:21, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

In Romans 2 Paul is addressing a Jewish reader who relies on the law and instructs others, having just said that God shows no favoritism and judges by truth. Here he turns the teacher's own standard back on him: the one who teaches others must also teach himself, and the one who preaches against stealing must not steal.
