Romans 8:16 meaning and explanation

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

Romans 8:16, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Paul writes to believers in Rome about the assurance God's Spirit gives. Just before, he says they received not a spirit of slavery but the Spirit of adoption, by whom they cry "Abba, Father." Here the Spirit adds His own inner witness to ours, confirming the same truth: we are God's children.
