Ruth 3:2 meaning and explanation

Now is not Boaz, with whose servant girls you have been working, a relative of ours? In fact, tonight he is winnowing barley on the threshing floor.

Ruth 3:2, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Naomi is speaking to Ruth, her widowed daughter-in-law, in Bethlehem during the barley harvest. Having already urged Ruth to glean in Boaz's fields, Naomi now names him as a relative and points to the timing: that night Boaz will winnow barley on the threshing floor, where grain is tossed into the wind to separate it from chaff.
