Titus 1:15 meaning and explanation

To the pure, all things are pure; but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure. Indeed, both their minds and their consciences are defiled.

Titus 1:15, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Paul is writing to Titus, who was left on Crete to appoint elders and correct false teachers who were pressing Jewish rules about ritual purity on the church (verses 5 and 10 to 14). Paul answers that purity is not finally a matter of external things but of the heart.
