Zechariah 12:7 meaning and explanation

The LORD will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and of the people of Jerusalem may not be greater than that of Judah.

Zechariah 12:7, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The LORD is speaking through Zechariah about a coming siege of Jerusalem, and in verse 7 he promises to rescue the rural clans of Judah, pictured as living in tents, before he delivers the capital. The order matters: if Jerusalem and the Davidic royal house were saved first, they might claim greater honor than their country cousins.
