There Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet are to anoint him king over Israel. You are to blow the ram’s horn and declare, ‘Long live King Solomon!’
1 Kings 1:34, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
King David, old and bedridden, is speaking to Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet and Benaiah, giving orders to install Solomon as his successor before Adonijah's rival claim hardens. The anointing at Gihon, a spring outside the city, joined priest and prophet in a public act of consecration, and the ram's horn announced it to all Israel.
