1 Kings 11:38 meaning and explanation

If you listen to all that I command you, walk in My ways, and do what is right in My sight in order to keep My statutes and commandments as My servant David did, then I will be with you. I will build you a lasting dynasty just as I built for David, and I will give Israel to you.

1 Kings 11:38, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The prophet Ahijah has just torn his cloak into twelve pieces and given ten to Jeroboam, a servant of Solomon, announcing that God will divide the kingdom. In verse 38 the LORD speaks directly to Jeroboam through Ahijah, offering him the same kind of conditional covenant he once gave David: obedience brings God's presence and a lasting dynasty.
