Asa, king of Judah, had been outmatched when Baasha of Israel fortified Ramah to cut off traffic into Judah. Rather than trust the LORD, Asa paid Ben-hadad of Aram to break his treaty with Baasha, and the plan worked: Baasha withdrew.
