Explanation preview
Asa, king of Judah, had been building a defensive alliance against Baasha, king of Israel, who was fortifying Ramah to cut off Judah's movement. After Ben-hadad of Aram attacked Israel's northern cities, Baasha abandoned Ramah, and Asa conscripted all the men of Judah to dismantle the abandoned building materials and reuse them to fortify Geba and Mizpah, towns closer to Judah's northern border.
