1 Kings 20:32 meaning and explanation
So with sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, they went to the king of Israel and said, “Your servant Ben-hadad says, ‘Please spare my life.’” And the king answered, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”
1 Kings 20:32, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Ben-hadad's servants come to Ahab in sackcloth and ropes, the dress of those expecting execution, and plead for their king's life. Ahab's reply, calling Ben-hadad "my brother," is startling: it is the language of treaty and alliance, not of a conqueror who has just been promised victory by a prophet.
