1 Kings 8:43 meaning and explanation
then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You. Then all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You, as do Your people Israel, and they will know that this house I have built is called by Your Name.
1 Kings 8:43, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Solomon is praying at the dedication of the temple in Jerusalem, and here he asks God to hear the foreigner who comes from a distant land because of God's name and mighty hand. Israel's God is not a local deity, yet Solomon asks that the outsider's prayer be answered fully, "according to all for which the foreigner calls." The purpose reaches beyond the individual: all peoples will know God's name, fear him, and recognize that this house bears his Name.
