1 Samuel 7:6 meaning and explanation

When they had gathered at Mizpah, they drew water and poured it out before the LORD. On that day they fasted, and there they confessed, “We have sinned against the LORD.” And Samuel judged the Israelites at Mizpah.

1 Samuel 7:6, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The gathering at Mizpah follows Samuel's call to return to the LORD with whole hearts. Drawing water and pouring it out before the LORD is a visible act of surrender, perhaps a picture of hearts poured out to God, and it is joined with fasting and confession.
