Solomon has just taken the throne and gathered all Israel at Gibeon, where the old Tent of Meeting and Bezalel's bronze altar still stood, while the ark was in Jerusalem. There he leads the assembly in worship, offering a thousand burnt offerings, a whole offering of dedication rather than a sacrifice for sin.
