2 Chronicles 36:15 meaning and explanation

Again and again the LORD, the God of their fathers, sent word to His people through His messengers because He had compassion on them and on His dwelling place.

2 Chronicles 36:15, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The Chronicler is summarizing the last years of Judah before Babylon destroyed Jerusalem. The people had mocked God's prophets and defiled the temple, yet verse 15 shows God's initiative: he kept sending messengers "again and again." The Hebrew word for compassion, racham, carries the sense of tender mercy, and here it moves God to pity both his people and his dwelling place, the temple.
