2 Samuel 1:27 meaning and explanation
How the mighty have fallen and the weapons of war have perished!”
2 Samuel 1:27, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
These are the closing words of David's lament, the Song of the Bow, which he composed after Saul and Jonathan died on Mount Gilboa and ordered taught to the people of Judah. David has just named his grief for Jonathan, and the poem ends where it began, with the refrain "how the mighty have fallen." The "weapons of war" are literally vessels or implements of battle, the gear Saul and Jonathan carried.
