2 Samuel 12:10 meaning and explanation

Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised Me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.’

2 Samuel 12:10, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Nathan the prophet is speaking to David, the king of Israel, after telling the parable of the rich man who took the poor man's only lamb. David had condemned that man, and Nathan answered, "You are that man." Here God's verdict follows: because David arranged Uriah's death and took Bathsheba, the sword will never depart from his house.
