David waits between the city gates while his troops fight Absalom’s rebellion, and a watchman on the wall reports two runners approaching. The watchman recognizes the stride of Ahimaaz son of Zadok, a priest’s son known at court, and David takes his coming as a good sign: “This is a good man; he comes with good news.” The king’s confidence rests on character, not yet on the message.
