Amos 3:5 meaning and explanation

Does a bird land in a snare where no bait has been set? Does a trap spring from the ground when it has nothing to catch?

Amos 3:5, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Amos is speaking to the prosperous northern kingdom of Israel, and in verses 3 to 6 he piles up everyday questions whose obvious answer is no. A bird does not drop into a snare unless something has drawn it there, and a trap does not spring up from the ground unless it has caught something.
