Amos 5:7 meaning and explanation
There are those who turn justice into wormwood and cast righteousness to the ground.
Amos 5:7, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Amos is speaking to the prosperous house of Israel in the eighth century BC, and in verse 7 he names the charge that runs through the whole chapter. The Hebrew word for wormwood, la'anah, refers to a bitter, poisonous plant, so justice, which should be sweet and life giving, has been made bitter and deadly.
