Amos 5:8 meaning and explanation
He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns darkness into dawn and darkens day into night, who summons the waters of the sea and pours them over the face of the earth— the LORD is His name—
Amos 5:8, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Amos is speaking to the prosperous but unjust northern kingdom of Israel, and in this verse he interrupts his indictment of those who turn justice into wormwood to name the God they are ignoring. The Creator who set the Pleiades and Orion in place, the Hebrew names for these star clusters, also governs the daily turning of darkness to dawn and day to night, and summons the sea's waters to pour over the earth.
