Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are answering King Nebuchadnezzar, who has just threatened them with the furnace if they refuse to worship his golden statue. Their reply is not a claim that God must rescue them; verse 18 adds "even if He does not." Here they affirm that the God they serve is able to deliver them, from the fire and from the king's hand alike.
