But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden statue you have set up.”

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego are answering King Nebuchadnezzar, who has just threatened them with the fiery furnace for refusing to bow to his golden statue. In verse 17 they say God is able to rescue them; here they add that even if he does not, they will not serve Babylon's gods.
