Deuteronomy 16:3 meaning and explanation

You must not eat leavened bread with it; for seven days you are to eat with it unleavened bread, the bread of affliction, because you left the land of Egypt in haste—so that you may remember for the rest of your life the day you left the land of Egypt.

Deuteronomy 16:3, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Moses is speaking to Israel on the plains of Moab, just before they enter the land, and here he sets out how the Passover is to be kept. The Passover lamb was eaten with unleavened bread, called the bread of affliction, because Israel left Egypt in haste and had no time for dough to rise.
