Deuteronomy 2:1 meaning and explanation

Then we turned back and headed for the wilderness by way of the Red Sea, as the LORD had instructed me, and for many days we wandered around Mount Seir.

Deuteronomy 2:1, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

Moses is retelling Israel's story to the people camped on the plains of Moab, just before they enter the promised land. The generation that left Egypt had refused to trust God at Kadesh-barnea, so God sent them back toward the Red Sea, and they circled the hill country of Seir for a long time.
