Explanation preview

Moses addresses Israel on the plains of Moab, giving laws for worship and community life before the people enter Canaan. Verse 17 bars any Israelite from serving as a shrine prostitute, and verse 18 extends the ban to the earnings of such work: money from prostitution, male or female, could not be brought to the tabernacle to pay a vow.
