Ecclesiastes 6:3 meaning and explanation

A man may father a hundred children and live for many years; yet no matter how long he lives, if he is unsatisfied with his prosperity and does not even receive a proper burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he.

Ecclesiastes 6:3, Berean Standard Bible

Explanation preview

The Teacher, Israel's wisdom writer, weighs a life of many children and long years against one missing the good of what God gives. A hundred children and a long life were the classic signs of blessing, yet without satisfaction and a proper burial the man's end is worse than a stillborn child's, who at least finds rest (verses 4 to 5).
