Ephesians 4:20 meaning and explanation
But this is not the way you came to know Christ.
Ephesians 4:20, Berean Standard Bible
Explanation preview
Paul is writing to Gentile believers in Ephesus, and in verses 17 to 19 he has just described the futility, darkness and sensuality of their former pagan life. Verse 20 turns a corner: “But this is not the way you came to know Christ.” The Greek verb for “know” here, manthano, means to learn or come to understand, so Paul is reminding them that knowing Christ was never a matter of adopting a set of ideas but of a whole new way of life.
